A Story About Bereavement Support
Bev and David attended North Montpelier Elementary School together and were childhood friends. Many years later, the two were reacquainted and were exploring their future together when David, who was exposed to asbestos while serving in the US Navy, became ill and was diagnosed with mesothelioma.
CVHHH’s Hospice team provided thoughtful, supportive care for David at his home, which was located on Bev’s family farm in Montpelier. Eventually, David was cared for at Respite House in Colchester, where he died. After David’s death, Bev attended CVHHH’s free, grief support groups run by our Bereavement Coordinator Diana Moore. “The group was–what else can I say–so supportive. It was a safe place to cry, laugh, ask questions, vent, and accept and understand my feelings around the loss of David,” said Bev when we met with her at her home (pictured above). “I am so very grateful that this group was available to me, and to everyone who I met and with whom I shared and provided support.”
