3 Tips to Reduce Your Fall Risk

Did you know that falls are the most common cause of serious injury and hospitalization for seniors and that the risk of injury increases with age? We care about the safety of our patients, and of our broader community. That’s why we’re sharing these three easy tips from Kim LaGue, our Chief Operating Officer and a Licensed Physical Therapist, to help you reduce your risk of a fall.

  1. Exercise! Regular exercise can improve your strength, balance, and flexibility. Tai Chi is a wonderful option. Check out the Central Vermont Council on Aging’s schedule of local Tai Chi classes. Click here to see the schedule >> https://bit.ly/2x35Ysz
  2. Ask your health-care provider to review your medications. You want to make sure that any potential side effects of your medications are not increasing your fall risk.
  3. Check your vision once a year.

In addition to these three tips, we recommend removing unnecessary clutter from your home, especially on the stairs and in high-traffic hallways and in the bathroom. Helping reduce your risk of a fall is in line with our mission to keep central Vermonters safely in their homes for as long as possible.
