Meet Amy & Kat and Give to Our Spring Appeal
When Amy was 24 weeks pregnant with Kat, her second child, doctors diagnosed Kat with a rare heart condition and said Kat would not survive birth. Kat survived birth and had her first open-heart surgery when she was one day old. When Kat and Amy returned home, they connected with CVHHH’s Maternal-Child Health (MCH) team. At the time, Amy says she was unaware that CVHHH offered services for moms and babies.
“We love our MCH nurses. They are so compassionate and kind. We formed a bond with each of our nurses, and I know they truly care about Kat’s and my well-being.”
For the past five years, Kat and Amy have been on a very special journey together, and they have not been alone. CVHHH’s MCH team has been by Kat and Amy’s sides, providing regular medical check-ins, care coordination with community providers, and music and dance therapy. They have also been an invaluable support and sounding board for Amy. “Our nurses have been amazing at staying in touch with me and checking in. Even though the nurses are coming to check on Kat, they always ask how I am doing. It’s been nice to have people to talk to.”
Kat now attends preschool in Orange and continues to receive Maternal-Child Health services and supports at home. “When I think of everything Kat has been through, I am immensely proud to be her mother. Kat is such a strong little girl!”
Your gift to the Spring Appeal ensures that Central Vermonters in need, such as Kat and Amy, are cared for and have the opportunity to live their lives to the fullest. Thank you for your support of CVHHH!
